Tryptic Wall Hanging

Having a wildly optimistic day, I said yes to designing a wall hanging for a Village Arts Centre. The brief was to incorporate the Centre’s Logo, two musical clef and base and treble and line it with wadding to act as a sound baffle-if that’s the right word. I have no idea if the sound baffling is successful. The hanging position was to be on the back wall above the top row of seats and under the back lights. Somewhat tricky being between heads and lights. Long and narrow it seemed was the only option. In the event it became two long (10ft by 2ft, in old money) and a third after thought of a central piece (2ft.6in by 2ft) I will let those among us do the conversion into metric.

It wasn’t just me in all this. The Ladies Kirkmabreck Quilters were all up for the challenge. Fabrics were released from stash boxes, Ideas were cast about at weekly get togethers. The design was approved by the Art Centre Committee. Things that were needed ordered and the piles of materials, fabrics, notions stacked up and ready for things to get going. Then….. life got in the way and slowed everything down. There was no deadline – which I’m rather glad of because it would have been missed. Everything was ready by the Winter of 2021, work actually started the summer of 2022 and the whole thing finished by mid summer 2023. In the end but with a lot of support it was a one woman (me) event. Admittedly for and on behalf of the Ladies of Kirkmabreck Quilters past and present.

In the next couple of rows are photos of progress.
